PROPOSED LAW ENFORCEMENT SALES TAX
On April 4, 2017, Lawrence countians will vote on a proposed half-cent Law Enforcement Sales Tax.

How would the money be used?
By statute, the funds may be used only for law enforcement purposes.
When would it take effect?
Merchants would begin collecting the tax the first quarter after passage. So if voters approve the measure in April, it would take effect in July. The first revenue should be realized in August.
How would the money be distributed?
By statute and legal opinion obtained by the county, the funds would be distributed according to Budget Law. Qualifying requests for expenditures related to law enforcement would be made through the county budget process.
