OCT. 12, 2016 NEWS RELEASE
Lawrence County Commissioners are hopeful the new bridge spanning Spring River at V and Lawrence 2110 between Stotts City and Mt. Vernon may be complete by the end of the year. Weather will be a determining factor, however.
It replaces a low-water bridge that flooded frequently.
The county is using federal BRO (Off-System Bridge Replacement and Rehabilitation Program) funds to finance the project. The program provides up to 80 percent of costs. The county was able to use “soft match” from other projects for its share.
With a $619,750 price tag, this is Lawrence County’s most costly BRO project thus far. Hartman Construction won the contract with that bid. Another contractor bid $809,358.
Since the BRO program’s inception in 1979, Lawrence County has received over $3 million in federal funds to replace approximately two dozen county bridges.
